Michelle Johnson graduated
with a degree in Surface Design from London College of Communication,
University of the Art London in 2007. She is currently pursuing a
career as an Artist and Designer working in London.
As an
artist it is very important to Michelle that she has continual input
from a variety of people from diverse cultures, ages, occupations and
social groups. During 2009 Michelle is working with these groups of
people to create an exciting new body of work called ‘It’s Not What You
Know', you will be able to view samples and paintings from this
project in the
Gallery
soon.
As
well as creating samples and paintings Michelle has also been
commissioned by rb&hArts to create several large installations for
the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. The first installation
(Poetry Wall) was finished in October 2008 and the second
(Donations Tree) is due to be installed in January 2009.
'Art
is something that should be accessible to everyone, my vision is to
bring artwork to places and people that are often forgotten. Art
typically speaking is viewed in large, clean, white galleries. Why is
this? Is it because it is easy? Or just because that is the way it has
always been?
Over the coming years I want to encourage people
to look at art in a different way. I want my artwork and installations
to make the environments where I work more interesting. To encourage
people, who often are not exposed to the 'creative world' to ask
questions and push boundries.' Michelle Johnson (2009)
